Unit 1 · Getting the Image Running · Lesson 3 of 25

Reading the Scoring Report

The one window that tells you how you are doing, and what it means when the number moves.

How do you know if it is working?

There is a Scoring Report on the desktop. Open it, and it tells you your score out of 100.

How it works

A program runs quietly in the background, checks the machine about once a minute, and rewrites that report. You do not have to start it or tell it anything. Fix something, wait a moment, refresh the report, and the number moves.

the Scoring Report shows a new number

What the number is telling you

You seeIt means
A new line and a higher totalyou fixed something real
Nothing changedeither the check wants something else, or the minute is not up yet
The total went downyou broke something that was fine. Undo your last change

That last row is the useful one. A falling score is the only time the report tells you something specific, and what it is telling you is put that back.

💡 Write down what you change, as you change it. One line each: what you did and when. When the score drops, you want to undo one change, not guess at the last five.

Do not sit and watch it

The report updates on its own schedule, not when you press Enter. If you fix something and the number has not moved, move on to the next thing and check back in a minute.

Try it yourself

Open the Scoring Report from the desktop and note your starting number. It should be 0 out of 100.

Leave it open in a window you can get back to. You will be refreshing it all the way through this course.
