Unit 4 · sudo graduate · Lesson 34 of 34

That's a Wrap!

That's a Wrap!

You started this course not knowing what a distro was (probably), and now you can get around a Linux box without a single button. Not bad!

Here's everything you picked up along the way:

  • Getting around: cd, ls, pwd
  • Reading and finding stuff: cat, grep, find
  • Making and breaking stuff: touch, mkdir, rm, cp, mv
  • Who's allowed to do what: chmod, chown, sudo
  • Writing stuff: nano
  • Bending output to your will: >, >>, 2>, |, wc, sort, uniq
  • Keeping programs in line: ps, kill, top
  • Packing things up: tar, zip
  • Talking to other computers: ping, curl
  • And when you forget all of the above: --help and man

That last one is honestly the most important. Nobody memorizes every command or flag (we definitely don't), so get comfy Googling. (It's gonna be your best friend!)

Where to next?

If you want to put this to work right away, CyberPatriot Linux: Tokyo Jujutsu High hands you a deliberately broken Ubuntu machine and a scoring engine that grades every fix. Pretty much everything you just learned shows up in there.

Introduction to Cybersecurity is coming soon too, and it zooms out to cover who's attacking, who's defending, and why any of this matters.

Thanks for completing our course, friend! <3
